The Vincent Gentile Fellowship Program

The Vincent for District Attorney campaign was created to move the needle of youth engagement in Brooklyn, and to provide real life experience for students looking to effect real change in the borough. Each fellow will have the opportunity to work side-by-side with Councilmember Gentile’s senior campaign staff, and learn the ins-and-outs of running a grassroots political campaign. The fellowship is a 12-week program starting on June 1st!

The fellowship program will consist of four tracks in the following fields: Video Production + Graphic Design, Communications + Digital, Community + Political Outreach, and Fundraising + Development.

Candidates for the Summer Fellows program must be:

  • Self motivated individuals who can work independently and thrive on delivering results
  • Committed to collaboration and team-work
  • Possess exceptionally strong writing and grammar skills
  • Ability to tackle challenges with creative solutions
  • Passionate about politics, coalition building, and civic engagement
  • Willing to commit a minimum of 10 hours a week
  • Possess a working laptop

Video Production and Graphic Design Track:
The Video Production and Graphic Design track trains fellows on how to integrate digital tools, video production, and graphic design tactics into a comprehensive organizing strategy. Fellows learn how to maximize their artistic talents toward political victory, creating online audiences that will be developed into offline action-takers. Unlike other tracks, this fellowship track provides creativity autonomy and allows fellows to create campaign content that they believe will help drive the message of the campaign. From filming Vinnie on the campaign trail to creating online infographics, this track focuses on harnessing the creative development and documenting Vinnie’s journey on the campaign trail.

Community And Political Outreach Track:
This track provides fellows the skills to organize and manage community events that engage people around political issues. Whether that’s a speaker series, a service project, or a community forum, fellows learn how to become true activist in their community. You’ll be on the ground organizing communities across Brooklyn to help win this election and building lasting relationships with the people of Brooklyn.

Fundraising and Development Track:
A Fundraising and Development fellow will get a comprehensive look at the campaign fundraising process. Fellows gain hands on experience on database systems and learn the basics of a successful fundraising strategy. Fellows will work with the Finance Team to maintain and cultivate donor relationships and will gain hands-on experience corresponding with donors, planning major fundraising events and doing background research on potential donors. The skills gained as a fellow will prepare one well for future positions in development, finance, and in membership services.

Communications and Digital Track:
Communications and Digital Fellows will work as an integral part of the Communications and Digital Team to enhance our profile. The fellow will assist in managing our social networks, website, blog, video projects, and email campaigns but also assist with traditional media outreach, including research on media outlets, and building press lists. From monitoring and clipping press coverage about clients, issue campaigns, and key legislative developments to writing briefings, blog posts, and other original content, this track covers the full gambit of communications and digital work on a campaign. Additionally this track will also teach fellows how to integrate digital tools and tactics into a comprehensive organizing strategy. Fellows learn how to mobilize online audiences into offline action-takers—and then re-engage them again online to spread awareness and build momentum for the movement.
